It was a day of mixed emotions yesterday when luxury machine makers MB&F announced they would be ceasing production of the superb HM No.2. A Fitting Farewell
Fans of MB&F and regular readers of this on-line publication would already be more than familiar with the incredibly complex SV case design which took the watch world by storm upon its initial release in early 2010.Rolex Submariner replica

Deceptively simplistic in its appearance, the flawless execution belies the extreme level of difficulty involved in creating the final, finished product. According to Max it takes approximately 55 hours to complete just one of the sapphire plates – between the machining, drilling, assembly and anti-reflection treatment – that comprise the top part of the case. And that was only after they got the process down pat – three out of four prototypes broke in the process!

When you consider all this it becomes abundantly clear that a limited edition HM No.2 Sapphire Vision is the only truly appropriate way to farewell a series of such phenomenal timepieces. Fortunately for us, and you, MB&F have decided to create two!

The subtle use of color draws the eye but it is the extraordinary view of the 349 part movement literally suspended in between the sapphire top block and the case back that keeps them glued to the dial.

The Final Word
Whilst it is a little sad to see this outstanding collection retired, one can’t but help to look to the future at what will come in its place. We’ve already seen the truly amazing creations MB&F is capable of, most recently with the HM No.4 Thunderbolt, and the prospect of them pushing the boundaries of design and engineering even further in the coming years is truly an exciting one. That being said it is still very satisfying to see such a fitting tribute paid to the first of the Machines that was largely inspired my Busser’s childhood fascination with science fiction.

There have been less than 200 pieces of the HM2 created (in all its variations) including the above two limited editions, so if you want to get one for your collection, we would suggest you don’t delay!
