Audiology (M.Sc)

Rs.

Description

Audiology is the study of speech and ear problems including hearing and balance difficulties. This postgraduate course aims at imparting in-depth knowledge and skills in the areas of speech-language or hearing. In addition, the students are trained to carry out research that would help in upgrading the diagnostic and treatment methods in the country besides information generation.

An audiologist examines and asses individuals of all ages and identify those with the symptoms of hearing loss and other auditory, balance, and related sensory and neural problems. An audiologist uses audiometers, computers, and other testing devices to measure the various stages at which a person begin to hear sound, distinguish sound and the impact of hearing loss.

Audiologists interpret these results along with coordination from other departments to make a diagnosis and determine a course of treatment. They also help design and implement personal and industrial hearing safety programs, newborn hearing screening programmes, etc., to help prevent hearing loss.
